He trotted to school every morning
Along went the chimp, calf & deer
Dancing, jumping and singing.
One fine day the chimp told Jim
“Hey your necks just too long?”
Jim looked down and found
“Indeed my neck is too long.”
“Mom, Jim said why are giraffes so?
No other animal has such an oddity on”
Mom said “I don’t know my son
But God does everything for a reason”
Jim cried and tied his neck tight
But it just kept on growing
Everyday the little ones made fun
And poor Jim, kept on crying
The forestland was no more so
For the Sun had turned harsh
The carpet laid was yellow now
All dry was the lake & the marsh
And animals had to starve
The four little friends were now free
For schools declared a leave
The chimp, calf and deer all came
Along with the papa and the mamas
For they were thin from hunger pangs
So sad was the whole saga
Jim and Jim’s mom played host
For they were the only ones who ate
Their necks were longs and reached the throes
Of any tree in the arid state
Jim smiled now as he plucked the leaves
Atop the evergreen trees that grew
He shared them with his little friends
And now he really knew
All so different and sometimes odd
All for a special reason
Thanks he said to the God
Now, then and every season!
